#40 Love thy Brother

So this happened today.

Isn't it so amazing that even animals know how to help one another? Seeing this kindness today melted my heart.

Gus has developed an issue with his eyes and we think he might be going blind. So sad to think of such a thing. He is being a real trooper about it though. He meanders his way through the yard at a glacial pace make sure of each step. However, when there's food or a critter in the yard he gallops at full speed and may or may not cut corners too short or miss the curb or sidewalk just a little. So far nothing too major. He has an appointment with the vet soon.

Dufus' mouth has been hurting him for a bit now. He has some really bad teeth that he will be coming out in the near future. His breath is on a whole other level y'all.

I feel so bad for both my boys. They could use some prayers if you have the time. They truly are such a blessing in our lives.

Moral of today...help another. It's one of the main tasks God asks of us. Above all else, love one another.

P.S. Lots of this is happening this weekend.

#39 Summer Anthems + Sonny Boy

Today during a discussion at work I might have overstated my excitement at the fact Smash Mouth will be preforming at the Backyard here in Waco in August!! To say they were somewhat perplexed is an understatement.

It was the summer of 1997 I believe. My son the preteen was spreading his musical genre wings. That summer he introduced me to Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray and No Doubt. He listened to these CD's (a brand new invention for music listeners) over and over again ALL summer long.

Padrino (click here to listen) is one of my all time faves on this album. Most everyone knows All Star though, and possibly only because of Shrek...just a guess.

Sugar Ray was a good listen but nothing too memorable for me. However, No Doubt was the absolute best thing!! I think I must have heard all these songs a million times that summer.

He would turn up the music as loud as he thought he could get away with that on that particular day and play his video games with his best friend sitting right beside him on the floor of his filthy room. Dirty cups and empty chip bags strewn about. Oh to be young and free! This memory is up there in the top of all my summers on this earth. If I close my eyes I can hear the music and smell the grass as he was learning how to mow. Keeping a close watch on Ms. Tay as she maneuvered her barbie bike up and down the road at speeds her now gone training wheels would not allow.

There is something so great about summer anthems! As I am typing this I am trying to remember what anthems were of my youth. Hmm...

Rick Springfield - Jessie's Girl

My cousin Cyndi and I must have worn out that record the summer of 1982. Oh the days before Cd's and fast forward. We would run back to the record player and move the needle right back to the begging of that song.  My first real crush was due to this face. Oh Dr Drake Ramoray.

Prince - I wanna be your lover

Dancing on my bed until I couldn't stand anymore.

Loverboy - Everybody's working for the weekend

There may have been some extreme air guitar happening privately in my room.

Oh summer how you can make us feel young, alive and invincible. I type this as I look down at my new shoe couture and realize those days are now far and few between.

Do you have a favorite? I would love to hear about it.  Post your comment below if you like.

#38 Hot Mess Express

Y'all even snickers knows what is up with me.

All kidding aside today was just a struggle. From getting out of bed after 9.5 hours of sleep. Yes you read that correctly. I was asleep by 7:30 last night. I was draggin' all day.  Literally and figuratively...this boot on my foot is so hot and heavy. Lordy Lordy the things I get myself into.

Suffice it to say that snickers was a REALLY GOOD THING cause y'all know how I like to eat my feelings.

Tomorrow is another day.

P.S. I think I found a place locally to get my chicks!! I can go visit their farm and see what it's all about before I get started. These are truly exciting times for me y'all. Can you imagine though? I'll have to wrap my boot in plastic (no chicken poo on the boot) before I go. Ha won't that be a sight?

#37 Stress Fracture + Atwoods

As you might have seen in today's Instagram post...my foot has a stress fracture. Say what? I thought I was done with all that in April. Well unfortunately not but my Dr. at Waco Foot and Ankle is on the job. Back in the boot for 2-3 weeks and then to a walking shoe for another 2 weeks.

In other news, we spent some time looking at chickens today. Baby chicks in fact at Atwoods. Gosh they are so cute. However they are not sexed, only straight run (aren't I sounding so knowledgeable already? Again with the smoke and mirrors). I'm thinking I'll to have to order them from a breeder unless I can find a different location that carries them year round locally.

These are the two types I'm leaning towards  Aren't they just too precious?

Until tomorrow sweet friends...

#36 Elevate + Ice + Birthday top

One of these things is not like the other. Not sure what I did this time but Good Lord my foot hurts!

However, I did get tons of compliments on mama's new top. It was the only thing that matched the only pair of sandals that fit over the monstrosity that is my foot.  Great taste in tops sister. Three people would like to know where you bought it from.

All that to say, I guess pain and fashion can go hand in hand.

Doctors appointment tomorrow afternoon. Any bets on what other fashion statements I'll be sporting?

#35 Monday Blessing

As I have posted here and here, I have been having some tummy issues of late. Nothing too too terrible but enough to make me need to lie down at times. There has been a general feeling of just...well not good. I have gained back about 15 pounds of the Thirty I lost from 2015-2016. It's been a sad sad progression down hill. For the last several months I have been thinking of how much better I felt when I was taking Plexus and that I needed to get back on track. Our budget hasn't afforded me that luxury for the last several months. You know saving up for the chickens and all.

This morning walking in to work, I was approached by a coworker who knew I liked the products and wanted to give me a bag of Pink she was going to throw out. At first I couldn't take it. If you know anything about Plexus and the Pink Drink, it's kind of expensive. It was too generous a gift. She insisted. She liked the new flavor they recently came out with and was going to throw it out until she remembered our conversation.

Isn't it so great the way God answers even our quietest prayers?

#34 Backyard Chickens

So I have been dreaming about having chickens since we decided to move to Texas in 2015. Well guess what y'all...It's happening and soon. I have been feverishly learning about the in's and out's, do's and don'ts of backyard chickens (don't Google chicken illnesses...eek no thank you).

I just can't wait to get them. From all that I have read they are much like other pets. Individual personalities along with crazy sometimes just outrageous behavior.

So I have decided to get them as chicks so they can get to know us better. I feel like if they were older it would be much more complicated for them to understand exactly the hot mess that is Casa Gentry if you know what I mean. Understandably younger chicks should just assimilate to the Gentry ways. I think? I hope.

These little's will grow up and become these stunning ladies. Gosh aren't they something?  Minus the rooster. Ain't nobody got time for a Rooster.

Oh my goodness aren't they adorable? I am going to be a great chicken lady. I will love them like the mother of dragons.

I will keep them warm and safe until they are able to take care of themselves in the coop.

THE. COOP.  Lord have mercy there are like a million designs to choose from. I spent the better part of a day just looking at my options. Panic ensued. Not to worry though. With the help of some peanut butter by the spoonful and a little prayer I found the one

Wouldn't you feel mighty fine if you were a chicken living in this amazing home? I can buy the plans online and then have Mister tweak it just a touch. You know make it just a bit more cozy for my little ladies.

More to come on the chicken front so hold tight.  I am sure tonight's dreams will be the visions of what uninvited slithering guests Google says to expect when I am collecting eggs. NO THANK YOU!! I must learn the ways of Daenerys Targaryen.

P.S. This may turn into the daily happenings of our chickens journal. Consider yourself warned.

P.P.S This happened as well today. What in the world? What dog sits on their behind like this? Lawd have mercy with this guy. It is an entertaining life we lead.
